Ferries

I love the Greek ferries. When traveling to Greece, it is always one of the trip’s highlights. The beautiful larger-than-life steel behemoths greeting you as the taxi drops you off before the sun rises for an early morning departure. Thousands of people in motion coming and going  -- from many different islands, some on holiday, others for commerce or study. Trucks preparing to deliver their wares, scooters whizzing about dropping off passengers, cars queuing to board. And the even more pronounced smells of the exhaust, cigarettes and coffee fueling the hustling people off to their different worlds in the unique islands, whether the Dodecanese, Cyclades, or my myriad other island groups.  Or an evening departure is always interesting when stopping at intermittent ports of call well into the night, wandering on deck to see the disembarking passengers beginning their experiences on the myriad magical islands.  I always tell my travel companions how the fer...
